Smoke the pain away

Both Chuck and Jimmy (from Boardwalk Empire) go to an opium den after a recent death in their lives.  Chuck runs away from NYC after Bart's death in "In the Realm of the Basses."  He does any and everything to numb his pain, including smoking up in a Thai opium den and somehow learning about Thai massage.  Likewise, Jimmy goes to a Chicago opium den in "Nights in Ballygran" after the death of Pearl.  (Pearl is a prostitute Jimmy becomes close with after he arrives in Chicago.  How Jimmy arrived in Chicago is another long story.)  After Pearl's face is slashed to spite Jimmy and Al Capone (yes, that Al Capone), she kills herself because of her disfigurement.  While Chuck is trying to forget about Bart's death, Jimmy promised Pearl they'd go to this opium den.  In the end he goes there alone instead of with Pearl.
